The Hot Club de Lyon: A Jazz Institution in Europe
Founded in 1948 by a group of passionate art students, the Hot Club de Lyon is now a true jazz institution. Located in the heart of Lyon’s Presqu’île, it is the oldest active jazz club in Europe, bringing its vaulted cellar to life with concerts and jam sessions for over 75 years.
Over the decades, the Hot Club has become much more than just a concert venue. It is a meeting place for musicians from all over France and beyond, as well as a springboard for emerging artists, working closely with music schools and conservatories in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Every week, from Wednesday to Saturday, the club showcases all styles of jazz: New Orleans, Be-Bop, Manouche, Modern, Swing, Electro-Jazz, and more. It hosts unique concerts, open jam sessions, and special events throughout the season.
The Hot Club de Lyon, a true jazz guardian, has welcomed legends like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and many more. Each year, from September to June, the club keeps this tradition alive, offering over 200 concerts, delivering an authentic and unforgettable musical experience.
Whether you’re a jazz enthusiast or just curious, step into the Hot Club and let yourself be carried away by the magic of this legendary venue!
